Celebrating 10 Years

Deutsche Telekom Waste Management

Waste Management

  • Deutsche Telekom set a target of reducing its waste materials for disposal by three percent annually during 2001-2004.

  • Deutsche Telekom reduced its waste for disposal by approximately thirty-nine percent between 1995 and 2000.

Recycling and Take Back

  • In addition to the Deutsche Telekom take-back system for terminal equipment, batteries, CDs and telephone cards, which has been in place for some years now, T-Mobile has now introduced a separate take-back system for mobile phones.  Customers can now give back used or defective mobile phones free of charge regardless of initial purchase/contract.  These are then disposed of in an environmentally-friendly recycling process. For each old phone it takes back, T-Mobile Deutschland donates EUR 5 to the Deutsche Umwelthilfe e.V. (German environmental protection association).  The recycling is not volume-related which means that anyone can give back as many used mobile phones as they want.

  • T-Mobile Deutschland is also introducing an innovative straightaway service for rapid repair of defective mobile phones. Service points for rapid repair of mobile phones within 2 hours (on-site) will be set up in cooperation with a partner company. If the mobile phone has to be taken in for repair, a replacement phone will be provided free of charge.

Life-cycle Analyses

  • Since mid 1999, Deutsche Telekom, in cooperation with renowned institutes and universities, has been systematically examining the environmental effects and sustainable potential of its services.
