- Toyota's Real Estate and Facilities department, within the sales and distribution network, developed Process Green to ensure management of sales offices and logistics sites includes practices and products that are sustainable, address end-use costs, and meet business needs in a socially responsible manner. Through Process Green, Toyota received the U. S. Green Building Council Gold LEEDTM Certification for the South Campus headquarters buildings in Torrance, California and Gold LEED for the relocation and expansion of Toyota Logistics Services' Port of Portland Vehicle Distribution Center.
- Toyota has reduced total energy consumption by 19.1% in its sales and distribution network since FY2001. Highlights of these efforts include an HVAC control strategy that reduced energy consumption at the Kentucky parts center by 40%; a lighting upgrade at the parts center in Ontario, California that reduced electricity consumption by 38%; and new railcar lighting systems that use 65% less energy the previous system implemented at vehicle distribution centers in Georgetown, KY, Portland, OR, and San Antonio, TX.
- Our North American plants began hunting for energy-saving treasures in 1999 and have resulted in over $9.2 million in savings. The North America Energy Management Organization, EMO, consists of team members from our manufacturing headquarters office, the individual facility and the plant departments. The EMO is responsible for establishing goals and targets for energy management, implementing energy reduction measures, coordinating treasure hunts, data tracking, employee training, energy risk management, benchmarking and best practice sharing.
