Internal Operations

Many companies have made great strides in increasing energy efficiency in their internal operations through improved manufacturing processes, increased use of combined heat and power, and better data tracking and management. These efficiency improvements can often result in significant cost and greenhouse gas savings.

Companies including Air Products, Citi, Deere and Co., Exelon, and United Technologies presented on their strategies to reduce energy use in their internal operations and facilities.

External Report: Trends in Industrial Investment Decision Making (American Council for an Energy-Efficient Economy: September 2008)

This report examines specific industrial sector energy efficiency initiatives, especially those that do not apply to other sectors such as commercial or residential. Among other findings, the report notes that increases in transportation costs are leading to a return of manufacturing to the United States.
