Statements on Climate Change
“At Whirlpool Corporation we take our environmental responsibilities very seriously. Just as we have taken a global approach to our home appliance business, we believe our world’s environmental issues, such as climate change, must be addressed in a similarly comprehensive way. This is why we continue to develop innovative products that minimize their impact on the environment while making our consumers’ lives easier. We applaud the efforts by C2ES to showcase market-based solutions to climate change issues.” –CEO, Whirlpool
Climate Change Targets
In 2003, Whirlpool Corporation became the first appliance manufacturer to announce a global greenhouse gas reduction target, with a goal of reducing emissions three percent below 1998 levels by 2008. This goal encompassed not only the company’s direct emissions, but also the much larger emissions associated with use of its products. In 2007, Whirlpool Corporation strengthened this target, announcing a new goal of 6.6 percent reductions below 1998 levels by 2012.
